Software and hardware limitations of the iPad, and Android,
platforms affect all web-based applications, including forms applications
that are served by Webform Server.
When developing forms applications for the iPad, or Android, consider
the following known issues:
- The following XFDL functions are not supported for buttons, actions, and cell types. These
limitations are based on mobile browser limitations including attachments and opening new browser windows:
- display, enclose, extract, print, remove, replace, saveform, saveas, and submit
- Links to new content appear in a modal dialog within the form rather than a new browser
window.
- Scrollbars are not available in XFDL items or dialogs, as mobile browsers display scroll bars as
needed, rather than as provided by a form.
- Hover glow effects are not available as these effects relate to the use of a mouse, which does
not apply to mobile devices.
- The user is not warned when trying to navigate away from a form that has unsaved changes. This
is a limitation of mobile browsers as they do not provide event information to web developers.
- XFDL buttons and list items have a minimum width of 24 pixels. Widgets smaller than 24 pixels
are not usable on mobile devices as they are too small to be selected.
- You cannot use the Next and Previous buttons on the iPad keyboard to navigate to all XFDL items
that are in the XFDL tabbing order. These buttons only navigate through fields, and the order is
determined by the XFDL build order. To enable proper tabbing you must modify the build order in the
Outline View of the IBM® Forms Designer.
- The first letter of text that is entered into a field is automatically capitalized. This is
built-in mobile browser behavior and cannot be overridden.
- Action cells in XFDL lists cannot be activated. The functionality provided in action cells such
as attachments or creating new windows is not supported on mobile devices. See point one of this
list for a full description of impacted XFDL functions.
- Webform Server toolbar is not available on
mobile devices.
- Help and format alerts are displayed as tooltips when an invalid
item or a mandatory item has focus.
- When designing your form, set a height on the toolbar form item as form toolbar height is not
limited to half of the visible screen area. The whole toolbar is rendered without scrollbars.
- Mobile browsers do not allow access to digital certificates to perform PKI signatures. Only
non-PKI signatures, such as Clickwrap and Authenticated Clickwrap, are supported.
