The topics in this section describe how to insert items
onto the design canvas to create forms. Design tools such as grids
and rulers are also described.
Adding and modifying items
The Designer drag-and-drop interface allows designers to quickly lay out forms using the items on the Designer palette. You can modify these items using the Properties dialog box.
Using layout tools
Layout tools include rulers, grids and snap-to features that allow you to quickly align items on your form. Turning layout tools on and off is done through the View menu.
Showing or hiding items
You can show or hide items on the canvas. You may want to hide items to work on elements of an item or items without disturbing the others on a page.
Re-sizing and expanding items
Once items are added to a form, you can change their size by either re-sizing or expanding them.
Aligning items
You can align items so their edges or centers are lined up, using either relative or absolute alignment.
Locking items on the form
To avoid accidentally moving items once they are on your form, you can lock items into place. Locking an item ensures it cannot be moved or re-sized using the mouse or arrow keys, however size adjustments are still possible using the Properties window.
Adding images
Using images on your forms gives them a unique look. You can use images to add department or corporate logos to the title, customize buttons or labels, or add small images like arrows to help users navigate through your form.
Toolbars
Toolbars allow you to place headings and control buttons on your forms so they are always visible for users.
Providing navigation between pages
Adding page controls allows the user to move from page to page when viewing your form. Users are able to move to a specific page of the form, go forward to the next page or return to a previous page.
Creating print buttons
Inserting a print button allows a user to print the entire form. The print button can be added to the last page of your form, or to the form toolbar.
Creating tables
It is common for forms to have a repeating section. By using tables, you can display the repeated items organized into rows.
Adding additional files to forms
Many forms require users to add additional documentation as they are completing it. For example, a car insurance claim may require users to attach images of the damage to the vehicle and copies of the police report. To allow users to add these sorts of attachments, you must add attachment buttons to the form.
Ordering pages
When your form contains multiple pages, the page order can be rearranged after the pages are created. Changing the order of your form pages is done in the Outline view.
